In 1991, William “Liam” Thurman II, also known as “Preacher Bill,” established Making the Difference Foundation (MTD) with a simple yet profound mission: to help others. What began as a modest desire to make a positive impact has blossomed into a transformative organization that embodies the principle that real change begins with the person in the mirror.

Our Foundation's Core Philosophy

Description is simple, its about doing as much as we can and to always remember the change starts in the mirror. Since 1991 MTD hasn’t turned down a single person, when MTD has had the power to help. Understanding how God would treat others is the motivation, and giving all the credit back to God is the goal.

Making the Difference in Action

The foundation’s work is perhaps best illustrated by the starfish story Liam often shares: A young boy throwing stranded starfish back into the ocean was asked if he really thought he could make a difference given the thousands of starfish on the beach. Throwing another starfish into the water, the boy replied, “It made a difference to that one.” This simple story captures the essence of MTD’s approach – every individual matters, and every act of kindness counts.
